A chat at an after party
WordCamp Torrelodones 2024, March 24 and 25. I remember Elsa had just arrived from WordCamp Asia. She came with her daughters. Wetopi, with Joan, Pilar, and me, had a sponsor booth at the WordCamp. Elsa introduced herself and we started chatting for a while.
Later, after the day’s events, we spent a long time sharing stories at a really fun and entertaining After Party.
Back then, it hadn’t even been a year since I’d met Joan and Pilar at WordCamp Barcelona 2023 as volunteers.
At the after party, Pilar, Joan, Elsa, and I ended up sitting together. She told us about an incredible adventure that had taken her traveling across half the planet while working. We talked until the party was over.
I don’t believe in chance or destiny, but I do believe in something I’ve seen happen over and over: people with a certain human quality end up coming together naturally. All it takes is a conversation on a terrace or at an after party to realize you’re with people who are like you in many ways. And that’s exactly what happened with Elsa that night.
Turin: the friendship grows
We had the chance to meet again at WordCamp Europe Turin 2024. In the planning meetings beforehand, I saw that Elsa was among the attendees from Spain, so I reached out to her on Slack. Since we were both part of the WordPress Contributor Mentorship Program, we spent the Contributor Day together at the documentation table.
We were both volunteers, and after fulfilling our duties, we shared many experiences and adventures and had a great time. Our friendship just kept growing.
Bilbao: the turning point
Although we had already crossed paths several times during 2024, I believe the turning point was WordCamp Bilbao 2025. By then, the relationship was so close that we invited her to share one of the rooms we had booked.
This time, Joan and I both gave talks at WordCamp, but we spent the rest of the time with Elsa. We went out for “pinchos” around the city, and it was during those long, unhurried conversations that we realized something important: Elsa holds and stands for values and principles very similar to what we stand for at Wetopi.
Who is Elsa Tapia?
Elsa is a designer and creator of websites and ecommerce stores with over 15 years of experience. You can find her at elsatapia.com.
She brings her talent to every project she touches and stands out as a professional with solid, proven expertise. She does all of this with a smile on her face and a great deal of empathy toward the people she works with. But what makes her special goes beyond the technical side. Elsa champions causes like feminism in such a natural way that she doesn’t need labels. She advocates for women’s entrepreneurship in all its forms, not just in the tech space.
Driven by that conviction, among other great initiatives, she created Women Wide Web. A nonprofit directory where you can find women entrepreneurs from all over the country working in a wide range of fields.
A project born from the desire to give visibility to women who start businesses and who often don’t find the spaces they deserve.
Why Golden Brand Ambassador?
Because at Wetopi we believe technology must go hand in hand with values. We believe in human, approachable support, in the open source community, in helping others, and in building professional relationships based on trust and respect. Elsa embodies, promotes, and shares each of those principles with Wetopi.
